What is Social Media Marketing?

Marketing and advertising that reaches potential consumers via social networking websites, such as MySpace, Facebook and twitter is social marketing. If you are not utilizing social media in your marketing campaigns, you are missing an opportunity. Social marketing doesn't cost you anything UNLESS you aren't using it. We work with companies and individuals to leverage Social Media to help their business brand and growth. Viral Marketing is more easily achieved using social media applications.

Social marketing for Non-Profits

It’s a common problem.  You need to get the word out about your organization.  You also need to reach present and future donors and volunteers.  You also need to do this with little or no staffing.  So, which social networking sites should you use?  How do you set it up?  How do you fit this into your schedule?  Read on…

Which Social Networking sites should you use?
Statistically, the most active social networking sites online are Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  MySpace is also a player but tends to skew a little young demographically so it’s not one I would spend much time on unless you need the high school/ young adult market.  So, that leaves us with the three primaries and a few specialty products if your organization needs them to communicate effectively.  The specialties are YouTube for Video, Flickr for Photos and MySpace for younger audiences.

How do you set it up? All three sites are easy to set up and manage.  You just have to put them on your priority list.  Here’s how:

www.LinkedIn.com - enter your name, email address and password and the site will walk you through the process

www.facebook.com – again…  name, email and password and you get led through the process.

www.twitter.com – Name, password, email and you’re set.

Now, how do we fit this into our schedule?
LinkedIn, you’re just going have to visit occasionally and approve connection requests.  Recommend some people for a good job.  Get a few recommendations yourself.  You can join some groups for networking and education.    It will notify you via email when you have activity.  It’s not very work intensive.
Facebook and Twitter are most effective when you actively participate.  We’ve all heard of top-of-mind-awareness.   You achieve that by staying in front of people.  The easiest way to do that is to set these two accounts to communicate with each other. Here's how.

Get the Twitter application installed in your Facebook profile here:Twitter App For Facebook.

You'll notice a link that says: Want Twitter to update your Facebook status? Click here!

So, I want you to visit one more application to bring all these things together.  You need to go to http://futuretweets.com/ .  This application allows you to schedule your tweets.  So, sit down once a week, schedule your tweets and let them communicate.  You’re still going to want to add friends in Facebook, follow others in Twitter and build your connections in LinkedIn.  Obviously, it doesn’t matter what the message is if no one knows you’re putting it out there.  Visit more resources...
